Louisiana has adopted a statewide ban-the-box law prohibiting state agencies from asking applicants about their criminal history on their applications or during interviews. They must extend a conditional job offer before asking about criminal history.
Public sector employers in New Orleans are not allowed to conduct background checks on their applicants until after they have been interviewed. The city also passed a ban-the-box ordinance that applied to companies that contract with the city. They must wait until an applicant has been interviewed at least once before asking about criminal history. City employers are also prohibited from inquiring about their applicants’ salary history.
