Three more communities have joined the Ban-the-Box movement: Suffolk County, NY; St. Louis, MO; and Waterloo, IA. These new laws place restrictions on private employers when inquiring about a job applicant’s criminal history.
In Suffolk County and St. Louis, employers must wait until after an initial interview before conducting background checks. In Waterloo, a conditional offer of employment must have made.
St. Louis’ law will go into effect on July 1, 2020, followed by Suffolk County on August 25, 2020. Waterloo’s law will go into effect on January 1, 2021. Read more about these new Ban-the-Box laws here: St. Louis, Suffolk County, Waterloo.
